Honey Honey ~ Cafe & Crepery

"'Well,' said Pooh, 'what I like best,' and then he had to stop and think. Because although Eating Honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn't know what it was called." ~ A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh

http://www.honeyhoneycafeandcrepery.com/

Place: Honey Honey ~ Cafe & Crepery
Location: 599 Post Street (on the corner of Taylor Street)
Hours: open Monday - Sunday at 7:30am
Meal: Baklava[1] (Dessert Crepe) ~ cinnamon, walnut, and white syrup; a side of potatoes; and a cuppa Coffee (I didn't ask which brand or roast, but the last time I ate there they had America's Best Coffee Roasting Company, and I just assume it was still the same)

(I know you are trying to figure out just what the heck the EweToobular juxtaselection is here.

Simples!

The song segues into "Who Do you Love?" with a Bo Diddley beat, and everyone knows that Ellas Otha Bates/Ellas McDaniel/Bo Diddley's real last name was "Honey".

If you didn't know that, you didn't know squat!)

Sometimes you just need a good crêpe (or "crepe" for those of you that are circumflex-challenged
[in-circumflex-ible?]) for breakfast, whether it be a sweet or savoury crêpe, too. Because of which, I decided to head back to Honey Honey ~ Cafe & Crepery
(see previous 'blog-entry from March 19th, 2016).

I had arrived there at about 7:15am and there were only two people ahead of me waiting patiently in line for them to open up. By the time they did open at 7:30am, there were probably another ten to twelve people behind me, and by 8:00am, the line to order was from the counter to the door, and they were basically full then.

There are still many more good ideas from which to choose at this place:

(off the Savory Crepes section of the menu)
Torino (Feta cheese, fresh basil, tomato, mushroom);
Eggplant (Cheddar, tomato, garlic, fresh basil, sundried tomato, eggplant [Oh, now I get the name of this crêpe!]);
Florentine (Cheddar, spinach, cottage cheese, onion);
or
Salsa (Cheddar, onion, tomato, avocado, olives, salsa, sour cream);

(off the Eggs & Omelettes section of the menu)
Post Street (Cheddar, ham, onion, mushrooms, green pepper; of course, I would have ordered this without any of the putrefied porky-stuff);
Milano (Mozzarella, tomato, garlic, and fresh basil);
or
Athens (Feta, spinach, and olives; this will probably be my first choice whenever I get back there again and feel like ordering an omelette).

the Wild Parrots of San Francisco Interlude

Before and after breakfast, while walking around the neighborhood, I heard a few of the Wild Parrots of San Francisco, but didn't see any of them flying around. As best as I can figure, there must be a local, small roost in the Post-Geary-Taylor area.

Wha'?! A Dessert Crepe for breakfast?! Well, it worked pretty well for me. This was chock full o' (wal)nuts and cinnamon. The "white syrup" stuff was probably some kinda simple sugar syrup. They offer this with a choice of either Ice Cream or whipped cream for a topping. I went with whipped cream, because I figured Ice Cream for breakfast might be a little silly and overkill.

And to contrapose the sweetness of this crêpe, the potatoes were an excellent savoury choice. These really are great potatoes for breakfast. They are perfectly seasoned/spiced and burnt/crispy just like I like 'em!

For condimentary supplementation, Honey Honey
~ Cafe & Crepery has the standard San Francisco Triumvirate of Hot Sauces: Tabasco® Brand Pepper Sauce (both Original Red Sauce and Green Jalapeño Sauce), Cholula® Hot Sauce Original, and Tapatío® Salsa Picante Hot Sauce. I used some of my own Lucky Dog Hot Sauce Medium Fire-Roasted Pepper Sauce (Thanks, Brian!) on half of the pile o' potatoes and some Florida Gold Premium Habanero Hot Sauce (Thanks, Kerry!) on the other half of the pile.

I really did like this sweet crêpe for a breakfastary change-of-pace. Now if they could ever come up with a Kαταΐφι crêpe...

Glen Bacon Scale Rating
Baklava (Dessert Crepe) ~ 6.8;
(really awesome) potatoes ~ 7.4;
the Wild Parrots of San Francisco ~ 8.5

Velo Rouge Café

Richmond (District) Coffeehouses ~ Trentième Partie

http://www.velorougecafe.com/

(This is the best that they have to offer as an official web-site, but it's more in the form of one of those
'blog-things. People that write those are the worst.)

Place: Velo Rouge (Blanc et Bleu) Café
Location: 798 Arguello Boulevard (on the corner of McAllister Street)
Hours: open at 6:30am Monday through Friday; open at 8:00am Saturday and Sunday, and on some holidays (like today)
Meal: Mont Ventoux[1] Breakfast Sandwich ~ grilled egg, bacon (which I skipped, of course), and Jack cheese on an English muffin, bagel, croissant, or toast, which I upgraded with sliced avocado (a very 'merican food, I might point out); a side of grilled country (which I hope was the good ol' USofA) potatoes; and a cuppa Stumptown Coffee Holler Mountain[2]

https://www.stumptowncoffee.com/products/holler-mountain

(Do I really need to explain any EweToobular juxtaselections with today's videos?

I only provided the two different versions of the first song because Dave Alvin wrote it, but it was originally performed by X on their 1987 album when Dave was a member of that group for a short while before venturing into his own solo career.)

I was originally planning on going back to Cinderella Russian Bakery & Café (see previous 'blog-entry from March 10th, 2012) because I thought it would be funny to get a Fourth of July breakfast at a Russian bakery[3] that was named after a French/Italian/German fairy tale. However, when I stopped by there yesterday morning to make sure that they would be open on the Fourth of July, I noticed that they now support another one of those stupid parklets in front of their establishment. It is only a one-car obstruction, but it's still an annoying hindrance. So, for now, I am giving the place a mini-boycott.

Luckily, there is always a good back-up plan and I just went back-up to Velo Rouge (Blanc et Bleu) Café
(see last 'blog-entry from December 20th, 2014). Okay, so the real name of the joint is just Velo Rouge Café, but I am patriotically renaming it as such for today. Plus, even though they are a French café-style coffeehouse, I don't think they actually use an "é" (see, here is where an "officiel" web-site would come in handy), but I am going with it, anyway, because it just makes sense. And, I suppose, that being on the eastern side of Arguello Boulevard, this technically does not fall into the "Richmond District" area. But tough ~ my 'blog, my 'rules! I am running out of specific Richmond (District) Coffeehouses and needed to pad the books a bit, and I can really only think of two or three more coffeehouses to visit (and that includes the above-mentioned, temporarily-boycotted Rooskaya bakery) in this neighborhood.

I even saw a few actual (as opposed to impostoring) bicyclists getting caffeinated-up here before heading out this morning for an early-morning holiday bike-ride. (I have no idea if Velo Rouge (Blanc et Bleu) Café
provides any assistance in blood-doping or steroids, though, Monsieur Armstrong.)

I like that this is a very dog-friendly place. They provide a water bowl outside for any thirsty pupsters (but they do not have any free or sell any dog biscuits; I asked). There was this one big, happy Black Lab waiting patiently for his humans to Coffee-up before a morning trip to Golden Gate Park (well, maybe not so "patiently" as he kept coming inside whenever the door was left ajar ["When is a door not a door? When a big Black Lab walks through it when it is left open?"]).

For "just a coffeehouse", their breakfastary menu is pretty decent. I am not sure what their back-kitchen looks like, but to be able to provide scrambled and grilled egg dishes, that is a major upgrade over many local cafés. On the weekends (and apparently holidays, too), they also offer Huevos Rancheros and (the misfortunately-named) Jack Johnson Banana Pancakes. And they even offer a Pizza Menu in the evenings ("Seasonal gourmet Pizzas, toppings change daily").

I purposely went with a croissant as the basis for my sandwich this morning over the English muffin choice in support of 'merican Independence, of course. This was a simple enough sandwich, but it was a lot better breakfast meal than you will ever get at Le Mickey D's Salle d'Arc-en-ciel ou Roi des Hamburgers.

Real roasted homefries at a coffeehouse?! This is almost unheard of (and for any of you Nazi grammarians out there, I know the grammatically correct sentence should read: "This is almost unheard of, moron!"). And they were pretty good too, with lots of spices and perfectly crispied.

Also for being just a local neighborhood coffeehouseVelo Rouge (Blanc et Bleu) Café had a pretty decent selection of condimentary supplementation: Tabasco® Brand Pepper Sauce (Original Red Sauce), Tapatío® Salsa Picante Hot Sauce, Crystal® Louisiana's Pure Hot Sauce, Pico Pica® Hot Sauce, and Huy Fong Foods, Inc. Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce. Even knowing that ahead of time, I still came packing a few of my own hot sauces and used some Old St. Augustine Datil Pepper Sauce (Thanks, Greg & Cindy!) on half of the sandwich, some Dancing Dragon Cayenne Pepper Sauce (Thanks, Mom!) on the other sandwich half, and some Hot Licks® Serrano Hot Sauce (Thanks, Brian!) on the pile o' potatoes.

I have had Stumptown Coffee cuppas before and knew them to be very good. Holler Mountain is their signature organic blend, and I am pretty sure that I have had this specific blend before, too. Velo Rouge (Blanc et Bleu) Café used to exclusively offer Blue Bottle Coffee, but have since either been dumped by or dumped them. (It appears that Blue Bottle Coffee is quickly becoming the Mussolini to St*rbucks' Hitler in World Coffee Domination; I do not know who the Emperor Hirohiti would be in this analogy, though ~ besides, that would probably have to be a purveyor of teas). I think that they are really missing the perfect Coffee juxtaselection by not providing Bicycle Coffee co (it's very San Francisco-local, too), anyway.

Glen Bacon Scale Rating
Mont Ventoux Breakfast Sandwich ~ 6.4;
Stumptown Coffee Holler Mountain ~ 7.3

1. Quelle? Où?

Mont Ventoux (Frenchily pronounced somewhat as "Von-TOO"; they even have that pronunciation distinction on the blackboard menu over the counter-area) is a mountain in the Provence region of southern France. It has gained fame through its use in Le Tour de France* cycling race. It has been nicknamed the "Beast of Provence", the "Giant of Provence", or "the Bald Mountain".

http://www.cycling-challenge.com/mont-ventoux-all-three-sides/

*(Coincidentally enough, the 2016 Le Tour de France is currently being held from 2 July 2016 to 24 July 2016.

http://www.letour.fr/le-tour/2016/us/ )

2. I can't seem to locate that particular mountain on any Le Tour de France maps, though.

3. I wonder if there are any "brave bakers" working there?

(Okay, maybe only cunning Roosky linguists might get that stinky joke.)

Simple Pleasures Cafe

Richmond (District) Coffeehouses ~ Part 28

and

Bay-to-Beer! #104

(No official web-site.)

Place: Simple Pleasures Cafe
Location: 3434 Balboa Street (between 35th and 36th Avenues); phonicular contact: (415) 387-4022
Hours: open 6:00am every day of the week
Meal: (pre-Bay-to-Beer!) some kinda Linzertorte[1]-bar thing and a small cuppa their House Blend
(post-Bay-to-Beer!) Hummus & Veggies Bagel and a medium cuppa their House Blend

(These EweToobular songs are just a continuation from yesterday's Tom Russell mini-concert. The second one is a triet done with Dave Alvin and Katie Moffat; it was co-written with Dave Alvin, too.)

As it was right along my way to watch the start of this year's Bay-to-Beer!, I stopped by Simple Pleasures Cafe (see previous 'blog-entry from March 15th, 2010) for a quick snack, and then on my way back home I stopped by again and finished up my breakfast there. And I would just like to point out that no one working there this morning was drinking from an outside cuppa that St*rbucks cr*p.

Gone now are the really cool table lamps that they used to have on all the tables in the back part of the café. I guess they couldn't afford them any longer with the upkeep on the stupid parklet out front now...

stupid, useless parklet mini-rant

There is a HUGE stupid parklet in front of the place. It has been there for about two years now. I did a small boycott (for about a year straight) of the place, but it's been one of my favourite go-to neighborhood joints since I first moved to San Francisco, so I could only stay away so long (besides, their Coffee is really good and the Hummus & Veggies Bagel is also a good, quick meal ~ convictions only matter for other people). This stupid parklet takes up a spot along Balboa Street that makes for at least 3-4 car parking spaces being wasted. Oh, well, at least it's a nice enough looking space (even if it is still a stupid wastelet). I even decided to eat the Linzertorte-bar thing while sitting in the stupid parklet. (End of mini-rant, for now.)

They really only offer a few other ideas for a breakfastary repast. I could have ordered Scrambled Egg & Cheese Bagel (which I probably would have ordered with an Asiago[2] cheese bagel) or one of those pre-packaged burritos (you know, the kind that many coffeehouses sell now-a-days ~ there was a Potato, Black Bean, Egg, & Cheese one that didn't sound half-bad) in the front refrigerated case.

(not necessarily a stupid, useless) Bay-to-Beer! Interlude

http://www.zapposbaytobreakers.com/

I stationed myself in front of the Bison Paddock at first, but made my way to the corner of John F Kennedy Drive and Chain of Lakes Drive East[3], where there was a live band just starting to warm-up.

(Dammit! And me without any PURINA® Buffalo Chow.)

(These are photos of the lead pack of runners.)

After about the first 100 runners had gone past, I decided to head out and get breakfast. I figured as long as I was already in the area, I would swing by Raccoon Island and see if Rocky and any of his buddies were around to watch the race. Unfortunately, it was way too early in the morning for any of them to still be awake or up yet. I did run into several of those fuzzy-tailed rats, Steller's Jays, and Red-Winged Blackbirds, though.

(Dammit! And me without any PURINA® Raccoon Chow...
or any PURINA® Squirrel Chow...
or any PURINA® Steller's Jay Chow...
or any PURINA® Red-Winged Blackbird Chow...)

"Hummus on a bagel?! Oy vay[4]! Are you meshugge, Brian?!"

I was a bit skeptical the first time that I ever ordered this, but now I know that it is way better than any of that soft Philly-cheese stuff. They make their own hummus and it is generally very good. Today it was just good (a bit on thick side), but still much better than anything I would ever attempt to make at home. (Yeah, fat chance!) I went with a sesame bagel for the basis of this meal; that always seems to pair very well with hummus. Today's "Veggies" were tomato slices (Sorry, Greg!), cucumber slices, sliced pepperoncinis, sliced black olives (the plain ol' boring, canned variety; this would be so much more awesomer if they ever used authentic Kalamata olives), red onions, and a few leaves of romaine lettuce. Sometimes this plate will also include
alfalfa sprouts.

I didn't bother to check out what Simple Pleasures Cafe might have to offer in the way of any condimentary supplements, nor did I bother bringing any of my own hot sauces with me this morning. I knew in advance that I was going to get the Hummus & Veggies Bagel and knew it didn't need any spicing up.

Glen Bacon Scale Rating
Linzertorte-bar thing ~ 6.2;
Hummus & Veggies Bagel ~ 6.3

3. There really is no longer a "Chain of Lakes Drive West", so I do not know why they still need to use the "East" designator here. The old Chain of Lakes Drive West used to be the transverse around the other side (that would have been the "west side", of course) of North Lake (aka Raccoon Island Lake), but that road had already been turned into just a pedestrian walkway for many years now.

4. Stupid, useless cunning linguist pointer of the day:

The Yiddish word "vay" comes from the German word "Weh" (which is pronounced somewhat like "vay", nu?). "Weh" in German simply means "woe" or "ache/pain".

Emma's Coffeehouse

Richmond (District) Coffeehouses ~ number the Seventh

(and also Breakfast on Geary [redux],
Part XXV)

(No official web-site.)

Place: Emma's Coffeehouse
Location: 5549 Geary Boulevard (on the corner of
20th Avenue); phonicular contact: (415) 933-6632
Hours: open 5:00am Monday through Friday,
7:00am Saturday and Sunday
Meal: Egg & Cheese Bagel ~ ('nuf ced, McGreevy?);
a sweet cream cheese Danish (which I noticed that they get from City Baking Co); and a small cuppa Mountanos Family Coffee & Tea Co. Guatemala Huehuetenango

http://citybaking.com/

http://www.mountanosbros.com/

(Once again, today's EweToobular tunes reflect performers that I either saw yesterday [that would be Dave Alvin] or whom I plan on seeing today [by process of elimination, I hope you can determine whom that might be].

Hey, Brian, why are there two songs by Neko Case?
If you got a problem with that:
1) Just don't click on the links to listen to her awesome singing,
or
2) Start your own damn 'blog-thing and post songs of your own damn choosing!

http://www.hardlystrictlybluegrass.com/2015/ )

Early Sunday morning brings us to another in the series of Richmond District Coffeehouses. Today's destination happened to be Emma's Coffeehouse which is very local and is also walking distance from my apartment (only twelve blocks ~ downhill ~ away, but it always seems more like fifteen blocks ~ uphill ~ on the way back home). This is a medium-sized coffeehouse joint with seating of eleven tables for two-to-three people and two sidewalk tables for two people.

This space/location has seen many incarnations over the years. I think Emma's Coffeehouse has been there now for several years (six-to-ten years or so). Previously it had once been a burrito joint owned and run by Russkis (which would be kinda like a piroshki shop operating in the Mission, nu?!); needless to say, the burritos weren't very good. This has turned out to be a much better location as a neighborhood coffeehouse. They even have a Comedy Night every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month now.

http://dannydechi.com/

There were a few other bagel-y ideas for breakfast:
Sun-dried Tomato Spread (probably a sun-dried tomato cream cheese schmear); Pepper Spread (which I expect was some kinda roasted red pepper and cream cheese schmear); Humus[1]; or you can also Add Veggies (tomato, cucumbers, red onion, spinach).

I chose an onion bagel as my basis. It was made with boring, plain ol' 'merican "cheese", though. (Calling this faux-cheese "cheese" is like calling Bud Light "beer"... or the Donald or the Hillary "politicians".)

The cuppa Guatemala Huehuetenango (try saying that ten times fast) was very good and done very well (prepared properly). I know it may seem superfluous to point out that a coffeehouse made a decent cuppa Coffee, but you'd be very surprised how many professional places take a good product and just don't prepare it correctly. They also have 1-lb bags of the product for sale at the front counter; I probably mighta shoulda gotten one for the future, but still have three other Coffees that I am working my way through at present.

For condimentary supplements at Emma's Coffeehouse, I only noticed a bottle of Montecito® Hot Sauce and another u/i hot sauce in a plastic squeeze-bottle (which looked like it may have been Tapatío® Salsa Picante Hot Sauce). I just went with four drops (only!) of my own Blair's After Death sauce
with Liquid Fire ([No] thanks, Sean!) on the bagel (I figured the sweet cream cheese Danish was picante enough all on its own).

Glen Bacon Scale Rating: Egg & Cheese Bagel ~ 6.1 (but easily 6.3 with real cheese); City Baking Co sweet cream cheese Danish ~ 6.7; Mountanos Family Coffee & Tea Co. Guatemala Huehuetenango ~ 7.0

However, I should explain that the coffeehouse is probably still Russki-owned and -operated. Which brings us to today's stupid, useless cunning linguist/pseudo-epicurean pointer of the day:

"Hummus" comes from the Arabic word "الحمص" (transliterated as: "alhms"; meaning "chickpeas"). In Turkish, this is spelled "humus" and the Russkij cognate would also be "хумус" (transliterated as: "khumus"). I am blaming the additional "m" in the English spelling (most likely) on the Germans.

Eats

"The service we render to others is really the rent we pay for our room on this earth. It is obvious that man is himself a traveler; that the purpose of this world is not 'to have and to hold', but 'to give and serve'. There can be no other meaning."
~ Sir Wilfred Grenfell

(No official web-site.)

Place: Eats
Location: 50 Clement Street (on the corner of 2nd Avenue); phonicular contact: (415) 751-8000
Hours:  open every day of the week at 8:00am
Meal: Spinach Tomato Feta[1] Scramble ~ (v) garlic and fresh basil[2] (comes w/ toast ~ multi-grain, sourdough, or rye ~ with a choice of Excellent! Roasted Home Potatoes or Mixed Greens); and a large glass of Power "C" (a mixture of fresh-squeezed grapefruit, orange, and pineapple[3] juices)

(The first EweToobular juxtaselection is to commemorate the coming Celtic New Year, also known as Samhain[4]

The last two songs/videos are in honour of Hardly Strictly Bluegrass No. Fourteen. These two performers were just two of the many acts/musicians that I saw over the weekend. And I am so very sorry, but as hard as I tried to locate that latest, greatest hit of Ryan Adams, "Three F*ckin' Balloons (In The Back Of The Park)", I could not find a version of it up on EweToob yet.[5] I am pretty sure that Mr. Adams will include a copy of this ultra-extraordinary song on his very next album.

I am fully aware that there are some readers from Clinton, MA [who shall remain named Mrs. Morin], that felt it was very lame of me [by the way, I much prefer "ambulatorily impaired" or "peregrinationally challenged" over "lame"] that I didn't go out to eat breakfast yesterday morning and write one of these stupid li'l blog-entries, but I was kinda busy all day long yesterday enjoying all of the Free Music and Free Sunshine.)

http://www.hardlystrictlybluegrass.com/2014/

Seeing as both the Fall Baseball Season and the Celtic New Year are among us, it is time for a workout of my Breakfastary Rotation again. I went back to Eats this morning for breakfast (see last 'blog-entry from July 14th, 2014). I actually sat outside for a change at one of the six sidewalk tables for two. It wasn't quite as warm (or hot) as the past few mornings, and it was actually so foggy this morning on the way over there that I really couldn't see more than a block away at a time. (See, Kathleen/Kathy, I was only off on my prediction by about twelve hours. So, I am claiming a delayed 1-for-3 for the day.) It made for a very comfortable dining experience as long as I kept my sweatshirt on.

Having eaten at Eats many times now over the past few years, I have eaten almost every decent breakfast dish they have available for stupid vegetarians. There are just two more left (as long as they don't change the menu, that is, before my next visit) that I need to try one of these days: Vegetarian Egg Sandwich (arugula, Cheddar, tomatoes, spicy aioli, over easy egg, avocado, cornmeal ciabatta, potatoes or salad; for some reason they don't have the designator
"(v)" like they do for other vegetarian-specific dishes on their menu, I guess it must just be assumed) and Two Tofu Tacos ((v) zucchini, bell peppers, Hungarian peppers, corn, pico de gallo, cabbage slaw, avocado, beans, grilled tortillas, potatoes or salad; they don't mention anything about any tofu being in this dish, but I just guess it is assumed again). I also thought about getting the Caprese Scramble (cherry tomatoes, pesto, fresh Mozzarella, Parmesan) once again; it's pretty good and it seemed like that kind of morning.

I wasn't quite sure what this scramble was going to include in it as the description on the menu really wasn't very descriptive (I also asked the waiter-server guy exactly what was in this scramble, but he was really of no help). To my great surprise, this actually was chock-fulla spinach, tomatoes, and Feta cheese! And there was a decent amount of both sautéed fresh spinach and Feta (which were my deciding factors in getting this this morning, anyway).

I went with sourdough bread for my toasty choice.

And of course I went with the Excellent! Roasted Home Potatoes for my side choice (once again, even I can "cook" a side salad of mixed greens). There were only two cloves of roasted garlic in with them this morning (but the GBS Rating is never based upon quantity; now, if they had not given me any garlic at all, I may have had to given them a minus rating).

There was a single slice of watermelon[6] as a garnish-thing. While I was grinding some fresh-cracked pepper on the scramble mess and Excellent! Roasted Home Potatoes, I decided to also use some of the fresh pepper on the watermelon again. I had done this before by accident and knew it was actually a pretty interesting flavour combination. (Hey! Don't knock it until you have tried it… then knock it.)

For condimentary supplementation, Eats offers the San Francisco Triumvirate of Hot Sauces: Tabasco® Brand Pepper Sauce (the standard red stuff); Tapatío®; and Cholula® Hot Sauce. I had come prepared with a few of my own hot sauces and used some Fat Cat® Strawberry Serrano Hot Sauce (Thanks, Cindy & Greg!) on the Excellent! Roasted Home Potatoes and some Nando's® Extra Hot Peri-Peri sauce (Thanks, Kerry!) on the scramble mess.

(This is a photo of the Usual Suspects rounded up.)

After breakfast, I strolled through the small (just two blocks long) Sunday Farmers Market along Clement Street. It's nice to have all these fresh produce and junk for sale, but wouldn't it be nice if they had some stalls that kids and pets could enjoy, too? Some comic books, candy bar, or doggie treats booths wouldn't kill ya, would they?!

Glen Bacon Scale Rating: Spinach Tomato Feta Scramble ~ 6.5; Excellent! Roasted Home Potatoes ~ 7.5

1. Just because there was none yesterday, here are the Irish stupid, useless cunning linguist pointers of the day for these ingredients:

Spinach ~ "spionáiste"
Tomato ~ "trátaí"
Feta cheese ~ "cáis Feta" (I can only assume that "Feta" is the word for cheese in Irish)

Sorry, I have no idea how to pronounce any of these words. I am pretty sure that 80% of the Irish people don't know either.

2. Stupid, useless cunning linguist pointer of the day, part the second:

Garlic ~ "gairleog"
Basil ~ "basal" (don't let the spelling fool you, I am pretty sure that is pronounced as "Fawlty" in Irish)

3. Stupid, useless cunning linguist pointer of the day, thirdly:

Grapefruit ~ "seadóg"
Orange ~ "oráiste"
Pineapple ~ "anann"

4. For any of you non-Pagan believers:

5. Okay, I was just kidding. Here is that most awesomest, impromptued paean to helium-filled toys:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jB8K62jA7MI

For some reason I could not get the video to imbed here like the ones above, but, trust me, it is well worth listening to this link.

It is very easy to see that Ryan Adams would fall into the "Hardly Strictly" category of Bluegrass Music. You just know that this set must have driven the censors crazy during the live streaming webcast.

6. Stupid, useless cunning linguist pointer of the day, lastly:

Watermelon ~ "mealbhacán uisce"
